What’s new in UnboxStep

New features, improvements and fixes to the interactive 3D assembly guide, as we ship them.

  1. Standard hardware, a step builder and help when you need it

Add standard screws and bolts without CAD, add and copy steps yourself, and hand a problem to our team from any screen.

    • NewA library of standard fasteners (screws, bolts, nuts, washers and more, M3 to M12) that the guide draws without a CAD file. Add them in the 3D editor or ask Fix with AI. Learn more →
    • NewA fastener that goes in the wrong way round can be turned round in one click, or by asking Fix with AI. Learn more →
    • NewBuild steps yourself: add a step after any step, copy a step, and choose in the 3D editor which parts come in this step or the next one, and in what order. Learn more →
    • New“Get help” on every admin screen. When Fix with AI cannot make a change, it hands the case to our team with everything it tried.
    • ImprovedIn new guides, nails and screws are spread along the joint they hold, brackets and fittings are drawn with their holes, nuts and washers sit on their bolts, and the fasteners of one joint share one close-up. Learn more →
    • ImprovedSee-through parts are more solid, with an outline, and a guide setting makes them more or less see-through.
    • ImprovedFix with AI can change the order parts come in, copy parts, and adds new parts as new copies whose screws point the same way as their neighbours. Learn more →
  2. Welcome page, assistant avatars and a calm camera

Choose how the guide greets your customers, and a camera that moves less between close-ups.

    • NewWelcome page options: a product page with your picture, logo or the finished product in 3D, or the assistant greets the customer in a chat.
    • NewEight assistant avatars. The assistant’s name and wording follow the avatar you choose.
    • ImprovedA calmer camera: it glides between close-ups and pulls back only when the next place is far away. Learn more →
    • NewClose-ups option “the first up close, the others marked”: every place gets a ring, and a tap flies to it. Learn more →
    • ImprovedReview & publish shows one status card with the next thing to do, failing checks with a Fix it button, preview, sharing and versions. Learn more →
    • ImprovedCompany settings in tabs, with a Save bar and a warning before you leave with unsaved changes.
    • NewWhen a better build engine is released, move a guide to it yourself: compare old and new, check only the steps that differ, then publish. Learn more →
    • FixedApproving a step always saves the step first, so no change is lost.
  3. Fix with AI as a conversation, and more control over every step

Fix with AI now talks you through what it sees and plans, and new settings decide how each step is shown.

    • NewFix with AI is a conversation: it shows what it is doing, proposes a plan, and you correct it in the same chat. Add up to 4 screenshots or pictures and it reads them. Learn more →
    • NewBefore you say yes, Fix with AI tries the plan on the 3D and warns you if it would break this step or one of the next ones. It asks before changing anything that would harm the product. Learn more →
    • NewMake the same change in several steps from one request (“same in steps 14 and 15”), with one Undo for all of them. Learn more →
    • NewStep setting “Which side faces you”: turn the work round where it stands. Learn more →
    • NewGuide settings for the size of the markers and for how far the camera pulls back between close-ups.
    • FixedThe way in you set for a screw always wins over what the AI read from the manual. Learn more →
    • FixedClose-ups of every fixing now show both sides of the work, also behind a wall. Learn more →
    • FixedBuild check counts approved steps as checked.
  4. A new Build the guide screen and display options

One card per step, and settings that decide how much the guide shows.

    • ImprovedBuild the guide: one card per step (Compare with the manual, Edit, How it is shown), and you can delete a step.
    • NewClose-ups of every fixing, or of the first one only, for the whole guide or per step. Learn more →
    • NewChoose where the work is built: in place or on the ground, for the whole guide.
    • NewDisplay options: the assistant on every step or only at the start; part names on tap, per step or always; a box for critical steps.
    • ImprovedOn phones: turn the phone without reloading, tap a part to see its name, Replay above the card, and the fixing name and count above the buttons. Learn more →
    • Improved“In the manual” on a phone shows the drawing for that step in a full-screen viewer, never the whole PDF. Learn more →
  5. Needs attention, replies to customers and a check of every build

See where customers struggle, answer them in their language, and check a new guide step by step against the manual.

    • NewNeeds attention: the steps customers struggle with, trends, the likely cause and a fix from AI, and Fix in the guide.
    • NewCustomers to answer: read the whole conversation and reply by e-mail. You write in English; the reply is translated into the customer’s language.
    • NewBuild check: every step beside its manual page, a walkthrough, what is left for you, and approve in bulk.
    • NewPaste review notes for many steps at once: they are split per step and opened in Fix with AI. Learn more →
    • NewUpload missing parts (GLB, STL or OBJ) for one step or several, and the guide places them.
    • New“See it in the manual”: the matching detail from the manual inside the published guide.
    • NewA welcome tour for new companies, and set-up that learns your hardware codes.
    • NewE-mails in the reader’s language, and a page to choose which ones you get.
    • ImprovedThe assistant checks the fitting with the customer before sending a case to service, says a clear no to skipping safety steps, and adds part numbers to the case.
  6. Big 3D files, long manuals and a check after every build

Upload the files you have, however heavy, and every guide is checked in 3D when it is built.

    • NewHeavy 3D files are made light in the browser on upload (over a gigabyte down to a few megabytes), keeping every part and hole.
    • NewHeavy PDF manuals are made lighter before the build, and long manuals with many steps build without timing out.
    • NewBefore building, the AI asks about the 3D file: stray parts, or a door or lid left open. One click fixes it.
    • NewAn automatic 3D check after every build: parts in the air, sudden jumps and parts passing through each other.
    • ImprovedScrews go into the real holes of your CAD model, and the camera moves without jumps. Learn more →
    • ImprovedFix with AI learns from every fix you confirm. Learn more →
    • New3D editor: a part can slide in lengthwise, and a left part can be set as the mirror of its right pair. Learn more →
    • FixedThe 3D model loads even when a company network blocks the file host.
  7. Guide versions, rollback, and help for customers who are stuck

Published guides are now frozen as versions, so nothing reaches customers until you publish an update. Customers who are stuck can see how a step was shown before.

    • NewGuide versions: publishing freezes a version, edits stay in the draft, and any earlier version can go live again in one click. Learn more →
    • New“I have a problem” asks the customer what is wrong and offers the earlier version of the step when it changed, then asks whether it helped. Learn more →
    • NewProblems customers reported, by step, on the product page. Learn more →
    • ImprovedDowels and barrel nuts go in before the parts come together, into the part that stays put. Learn more →
    • ImprovedHardware put into a part before its partner arrives is placed where the next part will join it. Learn more →
    • ImprovedThe step card lists the step’s hardware: tap one to watch it go in. Learn more →
  8. Screws, dowels and tools in the 3D guide

The 3D guide now shows the hardware going in, placed by AI from the manual, with a 3D editor to correct it.

    • NewScrews, dowels, barrel nuts, washers and nuts are shown going in, with the step’s tool driving the first one. Learn more →
    • NewThe AI places the hardware of every step from the manual, and asks you when it is not sure. Learn more →
    • NewIn the 3D editor: zoom to an area, drag and turn screws, double-click anything to say what is wrong. Learn more →
    • ImprovedOn phones, each step opens with its instructions, then the card slides down and the 3D plays. Previous and Next are always visible. Learn more →
    • NewEmbed a guide on your own website: a QR card on computers and a button on phones.
  9. API, webhooks and building guides in bulk

Build and update guides from your own systems.

    • NewREST API with a key per company, and webhooks when a guide is built or a customer asks for help.
    • NewShopify connection and CSV import: products come in with their manuals and are built in the background.
    • NewCustomer requests from the assistant go to your support e-mail or to any helpdesk through a webhook.
  10. Fix with AI

Correct any step of a guide by writing what is wrong.

    • NewFix with AI: write what is wrong with a step, the AI changes only that and plays the step again, with Undo. Learn more →
    • ImprovedYou choose what moves in a step and from which direction, and the animation follows it exactly.
  11. Share links per language, unboxing screen and a guided tour

Permanent links and QR codes per language and campaign, plus what customers should check before they start.

    • NewPermanent share links and QR codes, each with its own default language. Old links keep working.
    • NewUnboxing screen before the guide: notes, links and consent checkboxes.
    • NewA short tour of the guide for first-time users.
  12. The guide and the assistant in one conversation

Every step arrives as a message from the assistant, so customers read, ask and move on in one place.

    • NewThe steps and the assistant are one conversation, with step and part links in the answers.
    • New“I have a problem” and “A part is missing” buttons in every step.
    • ImprovedThe assistant can ask for a photo and opens the camera in one tap.
  13. Visual check by AI, tools and a full-screen 3D editor

The AI checks the 3D animation the way a customer sees it and fixes what it finds.

    • NewVisual check: the AI looks at the finished animation and fixes orientation, part mix-ups and camera angles.
    • NewA toolbox with 45 assembly tools, with how to use each one safely.
    • NewFull-screen 3D editor: move and turn parts in any step, set the camera and focus. Learn more →
    • ImprovedThe work turns over when the manual says so (upside down, on its back), and parts travel with what they are attached to.
