Assembly instructions for sheds, gazebos and pergolas

A shed or pergola ships as dozens of panels and hundreds of fasteners, and the manual is often long, multi-language and written for two or more people. UnboxStep turns the PDF manual you already have into an interactive step-by-step guide that customers open from a QR code on the box, with an assistant that answers questions about the step they are on.

Why shed and pergola manuals are hard

  • They are long. In our small sample of 7 shed manuals, the length ran from 10 to 77 pages.
  • They are often multi-language in one booklet; the customer reads a document that is mostly not in their language.
  • Most say the job needs two or more people, and one estimates a full day.
  • One booklet can cover several sizes, so the customer must work out which steps apply to their size.
  • Some manuals have more than one version online, and the printed copy may differ from the newest one.

(From a small sample of public manuals we read in October 2026. Not a statistic for the whole industry. See our assembly manuals study.)

What the customer gets

  • Each step on the phone, with the right parts and fasteners for that step.
  • Their own language, without scrolling through the others.
  • A question box for the exact step ("which screw is this?"), and a way to report a missing part with the product, step and part.
  • The current version every time, because the QR code always opens the latest guide.

What your team gets

  • One guide per size or variant, reviewed and approved by your team.
  • An update without reprinting: change the step once and the QR code shows the new version.
  • A view of which steps get questions, product by product.

How UnboxStep works for sheds and pergolas

  1. 1

Upload the PDF manual you already have. A CAD or 3D file is optional and adds animated 3D steps.

  2. 2

AI reads the manual and builds the steps, the parts and the hardware.

  3. 3

Your team reviews and approves every step before it goes live.

  4. 4

Put a QR code on the box. Customers open the guide in their phone's browser, with no app.

  5. 5

An AI assistant answers questions about the exact step the customer is on, in their language.

  6. 6

A dashboard shows which steps get questions and where customers stop.

Frequently asked questions

Can UnboxStep handle a manual that covers several shed sizes?

Yes. You can build one guide per size or variant from the same PDF, and your team approves each one.

Do I need CAD files for a shed?

No. The PDF manual is enough. A CAD or 3D file is optional and adds animated 3D steps.

What if the manual changes?

Update the guide once; the QR code on the box already points to the current version.

Does the customer need an app?

No. The guide opens in the phone's browser.
